Temples & Shrines
Situated in the wilderness, these shrines and temples offer a unique historical and cultural journey to the soul of Karuizawa.
Suwa Shrine
A shrine located near Kyu-Karuizawa Ginza. The moss covered torii-gate intertwines with the surrounding nature to create a beautifully mystical atmosphere. You can retrieve happiness after your visit to this well known power spot.
Kumanokotai Shrine
A shrine in the old Nakasendo Way up to Usui pass. This shrine is particularly unique thanks to its location, where the front approach to the shrine and the centre of the main shrine are located on the border line of Nagano and Gunma Prefecture. In the nearby tea shop, you can eat local specialty rice cakes called ”Chikara Mochi”.
Asama Shrine
It is famous as a shrine where there was an imperial festival of Emperor Meiji. It is said that the main building’s architecture is the oldest in the town wooden building.
